I had the privilege of serving
again as one of the co-chairs of this year's
World of Chocolate. The event is the
AIDS Foundation of Chicago’s annual
holiday fundraising event held in commemoration of World AIDS Day.
This year a Memory Wall, a powerful video display of photos and words,
honored those who have died from HIV/AIDS and those who bravely live
with the disease everyday.

At this festive event,
approximately 1,700 guests sampled scrumptious chocolate creations from
some of Chicagoland’s finest restaurants, caterers, and
chocolatiers. Those vendors competed for awards determined by the event’s celebrity judges and
guests. The award winners from 2011:
Hot Chocolate Award:
Le Cordon Bleu (For altogether tastiest
chocolate treat at World of Chocolate )
Loco Cocoa Award:
Talbot Teas (For most creative use of chocolate
as an ingredient)
Sweetbooth Award:
Terry's Toffee (For best presentation - table
dressing, signage, and décor)
Chocoholic’s Dream Award:
Peninsula Hotel (An artistry award for
the most visually enticing treat)
The People’s Choice Award: Just Like You Like It Catering (Selected by World of
Chocolate guests)
Celebrity Judge Awards: Kendall College, Le Cordon Bleu (4), Peninsula
Hotel (6), La Taberna Tapas, Sixteen at Trump Tower, Talbott Teas and
Terry's Toffee
Nearly $175,000 was raised last year to support AIDS Foundation of
Chicago's grantmaking, policy, and public education programs. In the
past 25 years the AIDS Foundation of Chicago has served as the largest
source of HIV/AIDS philanthropic support in the Midwest, granting more
than $18 million to area HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy
projects.
